Zoom Meeting Next Week
PROBUS Global Zoom Meeting February 10/11
In order to accommodate members living in various time zones, we plan to have 2 meetings 12 hours apart. Doors will open a half hour before the presentation. Click the underlined link for your local time courtesy of Google: February 11 at 02:30 UTC and 14:30 UTC. Feel free to attend either meeting or both meetings. If you wish to attend, please RSVP on the Meeting page. Note the first meeting is Monday in Canada, Tuesday in Australia. The Zoom link will be mailed to everyone on the list by Monday.
Our guest speaker will be Jos Nolle, by popular request. Thank you to the members who cast 170 votes for their chosen speakers. Continue voting on the Speaker Page and we will invite the new favourite to our next meeting. Remarkably, 53 of our 65 speakers received at least one vote. There is wide appreciation of the talent we offer clubs who invite zoom speakers to their meetings. Many will speak to PROBUS clubs for free.
Jos Nolle is a world traveller who backpacked around the world before “settling down” to a career with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) and spending two years in Mozambique. After helping to open the Canadian branch of MSF he had a second career in international development that took him to Asia, Africa and South America. Jos is an engaging speaker with endless stories to tell about the over 100 countries he has visited.
Jos will speak on the hour, so we will have half an hour for open discussion and chat before his presentation. Discussions will continue afterwards. Come put in your two cents or tuppence’orth. Hear about new clubs we are assisting and opportunities to volunteer on the Management Committee.
Our Question of the Month for February is “What books have you read recently that you would recommend?” We look forward to hearing about your favourite writers. Feel free to respond on our Facebook group page or on the website chat.
Last month we asked about the seasonal food you enjoyed. Not unsurprisingly, Turkey with cranberry sauce and stuffing followed by Christmas Pudding was a treat enjoyed by many of our members. Others mentioned mackerel and herring, peas pudding, KFC chicken, choucroute, buttery champ, bubble and squeak, cinder toffee, Knickerbokker Glory, apricots, peaches, marzipan and chocolate. Is your mouth watering yet?
The deadline for the March Newsletter is fast approaching. If you have an article for Mary Wilson, our editor, send it in soon.
As always there are new conversations on Facebook, new jokes on the Funny Pages and new photos from our photographers. Browse them on the PROBUS Global website.
PROBUS Global exists to advance PROBUS as a vibrant community for retired and semi-retired people by sharing ideas and information, coordinating opportunities for friendship, fellowship, and social interaction, and encouraging and assisting with the formation of new clubs anywhere in the world.
Since the last update, we have welcomed new members from Australia, Belgium, Canada, India, and the UK. Tell your club members about us and invite them to join us. We now have 1425 active members and over 2,000 subscribers to the updates and newsletters.
